Sphinn.com has blocked my IP address to block viewing of publicly viewable material.

I had been reporting on my findings within the website and of a few of their associates. They were not pleased with what I had been blogging so they are preventing my viewing the website in its entirety. I feel my rights to view publicly accessed information has been stifled and censored.

Whilst GoogleCN dominates the news, Tibetan language blogsites in PRC
have been down for 2 weeks now:

One of the sites (tibettl.com) had been reported as an attack site but this is no
longer the case. It’s still down though.

Any reference to alcohol is blocked, including homebrewers.com and many other such sites.
Also any reference to gambling is blocked, including txlottery.org

The observatory of syrian bloggers

There’s a Facebook group called “The Observatory of Syrian Bloggers” and it aims at publicizing the blocked blogs in Syria. It’s basically trying to be an advocacy group and I think it’s really worth reaching out to.

We’ve gotten a slew of reports over the last 24 hours. The ONI blog (http://opennet.net/blog/2009/11/is-vietnam-blocking-facebook) points to an API article (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/11/17/ap/tech/main5679689.shtml) about the inaccessibility of the site.

There was an AFP article today about this site being blocked in China (http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5jO_0yPfQ4S1zZxeY9P4aHIt07qxQ); I visited the site and noticed that there are a number of comments in Chinese.

It would be great to get a little more understanding of what’s going on here.

We heard that Saudi Arabia is blocking the Twitter accounts of two activists (http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5iXcenQpy4CVmQM_NyAZMtIk1vNVQ). Has anyone in Saudi Arabia or elsewhere heard of similar things happening? We’re working on making Herdict Web better at differentiating pages, but in the meantime, please join the discussion below!

We’ve received reports that specific BBC pages were inaccessible in Saudi Arabia. Can you tell if it’s a all content, or just specific content? Is this a case of geolocational filtering, where some copyrighted materials aren’t being displayed?
